Cats want height. In the wild they perch to watch, hide, and rest safely. Take that away and they get stressed, even in a comfortable home.
What a good cat tree provides
- Multiple elevations so they can choose how high
- Stable bases — wobble undermines the whole point
- Built-in scratching posts (sisal beats carpet for longevity)
- At least one enclosed hidey-hole near the top
Placement matters
Near a window beats in a corner. A view of the yard is hours of free entertainment.
If your cat ignores their cat tree, it's usually the wrong tree, wrong spot, or both — not a lack of interest in vertical space.
